The beauty of being an underdog is that you can focus your undivided attention on your current task. Who doesn't want to be a David beating the monopoly of the Goliath? These are some of the most promising traits that can defeat the best of the best on any given day.

As Dr.Ivan Arreguin-Toft talks in his book of How the weak win wars: A theory of Assymetric conflict by analyzing all the wars fought in the last two hundred years. Arreguín-Toft was analyzing conflicts in which one side was at least ten times as powerful—in terms of armed might and population—as its opponent, and even in those lopsided contests the underdog won almost a third of the time.

Belief and Positive Thought
Every one of the underdog believed in an unconventional approach to the problem. Without belief nothing would actually work. The positive thought helps for the underdog to have belief and vice versa.

Strategy vs Power
Gauge the competition and play to your strength. They always gauge the competition and do extensive research on the opponents ability. When the underdogs likewise acknowledged their weakness and chose an unconventional strategy? In those cases, David’s winning percentage went from 28.5 to 63.6. When underdogs choose not to play by Goliath’s rules, they win, Arreguín-Toft concluded.

Hard work, Discipline
They work hard and really very hard to increase the skillset that are so vital for the demise of the stronger opponent!

Criticism
They take criticism with a grain of salt! When everybody says NO!, that is what motivates some of them to try that extra hard! Lack of attention helps the cause as well..
